In hindsight, there is a long list of reasons I wish I would have stopped drinking earlier. Now, a sober woman in the world, the benefits of being sober 100% all the time are evident. Not nursing myself through hangovers, accepting alcohol as a crutch in order to avoid problems, and actions I needed to prioritize. Drinking was an escape, a way to forget about everything, and neglect daily responsibilities. It helped me avert my perfectionism, or anxiety around not being where I wanted to be in life and quieted my mind permitting me to relax.

Around the time I decided to start my own business, I realized that I was going to have to make a choice: Alcohol or a life that I imagined. I could not maintain both (trust me, I tried). At some point, it dawned on me that if I wanted to become successful, and have control over my life I had to eliminate everything that was having a negative impact on me. Ascertaining a more productive way to take care of myself and gain the tools to quiet my mind without the use of alcohol.

By any means necessary, I was adamant about achieving the life I expected and wanted for myself so I did what most people do when they decide to stop drinking and August 16th, 2009 was the day I became sober. It’s been a journey but since I’ve stopped drinking I’ve had the opportunity to meet remarkable people, have unique experiences, and explore the world. Which in turn has opened up a lot of doors for me to have more success in my career and a more prosperous life in general.

Today, with what feels like an entire lifetime of experience, I’m adequately operating multiple companies, employees, and miscellaneous endeavors. The relationships I have with friends are supportive, my employees embrace me as their mentor, and overall I’m happy with my life which is what’s most important.
